Storage and Networks

Block storage (Ceph)

The platform uses Ceph for block storage and image storage. The installer creates the following pools:

Pool Purpose Default mode
vms Virtual machine disks replicated, 3 copies
images OS images replicated, 3 copies
backups Backups replicated, 2 copies

Recommended settings:

  • SSD pool for virtual machines, HDD for backups;
  • place Ceph monitors on at least three nodes;
  • watch pool usage: VM creation is blocked at 80% full.

Networks

Network types available to projects:

  • Private network — an isolated project network, VXLAN by default;
  • External network — internet access through a floating IP;
  • Management network — operator access to nodes, invisible to projects;
  • Data network — Ceph and VM migration traffic, dedicated interfaces.
# example: creating a network and subnet with the OpenStack CLI
openstack network create --share net-project
openstack subnet create --network net-project \
  --subnet-range 10.10.0.0/24 --dhcp subnet-project

VLAN and VXLAN

To integrate with a corporate network, configure VLAN trunks between switches and nodes. VXLAN is used by default and requires no network configuration — a single L2 segment between nodes is enough.

External networks and firewall

External networks are bound to physical node interfaces. Firewall rules are configured in the project panel (security groups); rule templates for common scenarios are available in the app catalog.
